Continental Mapping Stays on Leading Edge of Available Technology with Software, Training

LiDAR data viewed in GeoCue software showing a 500’ tall radio tower rising above the tree lineAs part of our continuing effort to improve our methods and stay on the cutting edge of technology, Continental Mapping brought in GeoCue associates Robert Graham and Martin Flood to train some of our staff on the finer points of LiDAR data processing using GeoCue and TerraModeler data processing tools. Staff members from both our Indiana and Wisconsin offices participated in two 3.5-day sessions.

“GeoCue allows us to efficiently process large LiDAR data sets, enabling us to quickly identify various characteristics of certain LiDAR data-types manually, and then let the software drive the majority of the post-processing workflow,” stated Senior Project Manager Frank Taylor, CP, from Continental Mapping’s Indiana office. “Using this workflow, along with the necessary user expertise and input, large amounts of land-based features can be efficiently identified from the LiDAR data, and elevation data are quickly extracted for the project area. GeoCue software also provides an excellent quality assurance tool to ensure that data sets are processed to the client’s specifications.”

Digital Imagery Processing
Continental Mapping recently completed a large mapping project using data collected by the Intergraph Digital Mapping Camera (DMC). Data were integrated seamlessly into our existing software infrastructure at both offices, and the project was completed quickly and efficiently by cooperating teams in Wisconsin and Indiana.

Continental Mapping is also making headway on acquiring the appropriate tools needed to process data from Leica’s ADS40 digital imaging sensors. Unlike the DMC, which provides digital imagery similar to digitized film photography, the ADS40 uses line scanning capture technology to create its imagery, and, therefore, requires a different processing workflow. Leica representatives are providing guidance on getting setup for ADS40 data sets, and we are looking forward to adding this capability soon.
